What Happens to Learners’ Financing Options in Incremental Credentialing?
Student financing is a vital issue— one that touches nearly every area of Credential As You Go’s work. Options for financing are typically a policy focus, an approach to addressing equity and inclusion, a learner support, and an area of professional development for those working in incremental credentialing.
On December 13, 2023, the National Advisory Board of Credential As You Go devoted its meeting to a panel discussion on financing options in incremental credentialing. The panelists shared their perspectives and discussed with the Board what action the Board might take to help learners participating in incremental credentialing.
Credential As You Go Board Members met on February 21 to focus on planning for the future, and data collection for incremental credentialing. Nan Travers moderated a panel around data collection issues with:
Keith E. Babuszczak, Wake Technical Community College, North Carolina
Karlyn M. Backus, SUNY Genesee Community College, New York
Terry Bower, Metropolitan State University of Denver, Colorado
Isabel Cardenas-Navia, Workcred Inc.
A recording is available for those who were unable to attend the meeting. Please email info@credentialasyougo.org for access to the recording.
Credential As You Go In New Orleans
Credential As You Go colleagues Holly Zanville, Lucia Weathers, and Nan Travers attended 1EdTech Consortium's Digital Credentials Summit in New Orleans earlier this month. They presented on Credential As You Go and the Learn & Work Ecosystem Library. Many thanks to those who came to the different sessions and supported both initiatives. The team saw a number of Credential As You Go and Library Board Members and partners!
The Learn & Work Ecosystem Library
The Learn & Work Ecosystem Library is proud to announce a new Research Center on the open access website that will include scholarly materials, tools, and professional development resources related to the learn-and-work ecosystem. The Research Center includes the following categories and content:
Library Lens– Library briefs and reports will explore trends within the ecosystem and insights revealed by analysis of website use.
Professional Development Hub– A space dedicated to professional development resources produced by the Library, including webinars and a newsletter.
Special Projects– A space dedicated to collaborative projects designed to support the use and improvement of the Library.
Researcher Showcase– A space for researchers to present their projects and findings related to the learn-and-work ecosystem.
Online Newspaper– Through a new partnership with The evoLLLution: A Modern Campus Illumination, Library users can easily access articles on evergreen topics in the learn-and-work ecosystem.
Within the new Research Center’s Special Projects category is an opportunity to build a “Community of Learners and Library Partnership” through a RFP. Selected applicants will review the Library’s resources to determine the extent to which the Library is a useful tool to learn about the learn-and-work ecosystem and to assist in acquiring information for educational and work-related uses. *Students could potentially earn credit at their educational facility for their research project. New SOLID Pilot Program
The Manufacturing Readiness Project is utilizing the latest in labor market tech tools to bridge the gap between military experience and civilian job expectations, unlocking the untapped potential of veterans in the workforce. Supported by SOLID, LLC and leading organizations like the Walmart Foundation, this groundbreaking initiative utilizes digital badges to translate military-acquired skills into meaningful employment opportunities within the manufacturing industry.
Through a comprehensive framework developed by SOLID, over 1,200 digital badges have been awarded to service members and veterans, showcasing their competencies and mastery of relevant skills to potential employers. These badges not only streamline the hiring process but also foster inclusive career opportunities for veterans. By reducing translation challenges and highlighting military-earned skills, the project marks a transformative step towards empowering veterans in their transition to civilian employment.
